Understand your solar output.

SolarSite Insight helps rooftop solar owners compare recorded production with site-specific estimates and review the possible effects of panel geometry, weather forecasts and shading.

Support

For setup help, app issues, accessibility requests, beta feedback or privacy questions, email solarsiteinsight@gmail.com. SolarSite Insight is developed by Christopher Larmour.

Include your app version and build number, device model, the steps leading to the issue, and the relevant date, time and time zone. Screenshots are optional; remove unnecessary personal details first. Do not send passwords, inverter credentials or payment information.

The current app uses Latest, Capture, History and My site. Refreshing the estimate does not retrieve new inverter readings: import a newer screenshot or enter a reading. Calibration images and optional Photos-library copies are separate; check that a new capture appears in the app before taking a large batch.

Privacy policy

Effective 29 September 2026. This policy covers SolarSite Insight and this support website. Developer and privacy contact: Christopher Larmour, solarsiteinsight@gmail.com.

Information kept on your device

Site names, coordinates, time zones, equipment settings, entered tariffs, calibration photographs, reviewed measurements and solar records are stored locally on the device running the app. Image and text recognition run on-device. Capture information can include location, date and time, camera direction and phone attitude to support calibration. The app does not upload your photos, tariffs or solar readings to its weather service, connect to an inverter or retailer account, or control electrical equipment.

No SolarSite account is required. The app contains no advertising, usage-analytics SDK or third-party tracking SDK. We do not sell your personal information. Apple TestFlight information, optional weather requests and support correspondence are separate, as explained below.

Optional online weather and location

When you enable online weather, radiation requests send a location rounded to a 0.25-degree grid and the requested date and time to our developer-operated read-only forecast service. The service uses ECMWF IFS Open Data. Its application request access log is disabled, but network and security providers can receive technical connection information, including IP addresses.

If suitable radiation data is unavailable, the app may request a cloud forecast directly from MET Norway using coordinates rounded to four decimal places. These coordinates can still identify a precise location. MET Norway records request IP addresses and coordinates in service logs in Oslo, Norway, under its published policies. Weather transport also uses Tailscale infrastructure. Photos, tariffs and recorded solar readings are not sent in these weather requests.

Turn online weather off in the app to stop new forecast requests. Selecting Update weather and prediction enables online weather until you switch it off again. Disabling it does not delete provider logs or reports already saved. Offline estimates and manually entered site information remain available.

Permissions, Photos and Apple Watch

Location is requested when you choose to locate or calibrate your site; you can enter the site location manually. Camera and motion access support guided photos and angle measurements. Selecting existing images uses Apple's system picker. Saving an additional copy to Photos is optional and requires permission. Change Camera, Location, Photos and Motion permissions in device Settings.

When the Watch companion is used, a limited summary is shared with the paired Watch through Apple's connectivity framework: site name, latest recorded and expected power, available daily generation and the reading timestamp. This is saved information, not live inverter output. Photos copies may sync through iCloud Photos according to your Apple settings. App data may be included in device backups.

Retention, deletion and withdrawing permission

Local app records remain until you remove them or delete the app. To remove a calibration photo, touch and hold it, choose Remove from app, then tap Save to commit removal and its linked calibration measurements. Separate copies in Photos are unchanged.

Deleting the app removes its local app data from that device. Offloading retains its documents and data; removing a Home Screen icon does not delete the app. Device backups, Watch summaries, Photos-library copies and exported files are managed separately using the relevant Apple or destination-service controls.

Support correspondence is retained only as long as needed to handle the request and any related security or legal obligations. Email solarsiteinsight@gmail.com to request access, correction or deletion of information you have sent to support, or to raise a privacy concern. We cannot remotely inspect or erase app records stored only on your device. Provider records and backups follow the relevant provider's retention and deletion processes.

TestFlight, support messages and this website

When you test through TestFlight, Apple supplies the developer with testing information, including usage and crash information and feedback you submit, under Apple's TestFlight terms. This is separate from the app's on-device image processing.

If you email support, we receive your email address, message and attachments and use them to respond and investigate the issue. Support email uses Gmail, provided by Google. Information you export, email or share is handled by the service you choose.

This website is hosted by VentraIP VIPsites. The hosting platform receives IP addresses, browser details and requested pages and uses session and security cookies. The page also loads platform assets and web fonts from hosting and font providers. We have not added advertising, visitor-analytics scripts, newsletter tracking or an account system. Providers may process operational and security logs; some processing may occur outside Australia.

Service providers and security

We limit sharing to the functions described here and require providers processing information on our behalf to protect it consistently with this policy and applicable privacy requirements. We do not authorise advertising use of app photos, tariffs or solar readings. Independent services, including Apple and MET Norway, describe their handling and retention in their own policies.

Provider information: MET Norway API terms and privacy, Tailscale privacy, Apple privacy, TestFlight, Google privacy and VentraIP privacy.

Protect your device and keep its software updated. No storage or transmission method is perfectly secure. Material policy changes will appear here with an updated effective date.

Data sources and limitations

This service is based on data and products of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). © 2026 European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). ECMWF IFS Open Data and the optional Norwegian Meteorological Institute cloud forecast are used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.

SolarSite adapts forecast intervals and cloud information into modelled PV estimates using site geometry and reviewed shade. These are not provider-issued PV measurements; the providers do not endorse SolarSite Insight. ECMWF does not accept liability for errors, omissions, availability or loss arising from use of the data. See ECMWF Open Data and ECMWF terms.

Live radar, satellite measurements, automatic 3D scene reconstruction and online retailer lookup are not implemented. Reviewed obstruction geometry drives shade estimates; visual image links are only candidates for review. Estimates are approximate, not certified measurements, guaranteed generation, financial advice or an electrical-fault diagnosis.

Capture photos from a safe location. Do not climb onto a roof or open electrical equipment to calibrate the app. SolarSite Insight does not control your inverter, battery or grid equipment. Contact an appropriately qualified professional about electrical or safety concerns.
